Chemnitz is home to one of the few petrified forests in the world, located in the courtyard of the KulturkaufhausTietz. The origins of the Chemnitz Petrified Forest are lost in the mist of history, many millions years ago.
The Chemnitz Industrial Museum is an Anchor Point for the European Route of Industrial Heritage. The city’s Museum of Modern Art ‘Gunzenhauser’ was opened in 2007, housing a collection of 2,500 paintings and drawings.
For a relaxing promenade, try the city’s Botanical Garden and the Arktisch-Alpiner Garden,which specialises in arctic and alpine plants.
