You’ll be on a Roll with a Swiss Job

It’s easy to see why Switzerland is an attractive proposition for anyone who is looking for a job abroad. The Swiss have a high standard of living, and as they are not a member of the European Union, they are free from many of the restrictions imposed by Brussells on member states. But before you rush into it and start the process of moving to Switzerland, there are some things you should be aware of.

Moving abroad to start a new life throws up many obstacles, whether you are moving to France or moving to Germany or any other country for that matter, and it would be in your best interests to find out as much as you can about the country before you attempt to move there. First of all you need to consider the language. Although English is widely spoken in Switzerland, the main languages are French, German and Italian, so if you are proficient in one or more of these tongues, your chances of securing a job will be increased.

If you are intent on moving to Switzerland, you have probably read the official line which suggests that it is difficult to find a job there. If so, you can relax a little because the reality tends to be a little different from the official Government line.

One of the major bonuses if you do manage to find a job is that Swiss law dictates that foreign workers must receive the same conditions and salary as their own citizens!

The Best Way To See Europe

The Best Way To See Europe

Britain is a very important part of the EU. Yet, with our own currency and the fact that we are totally cut off from all the other countries in our continent, it can sometimes feel like we are in our own little bubble and completely disconnected from the rest of Europe.

We are also quite far away from many parts of Europe which can make trying to see the whole continent a very costly and time-consuming operation, and yet we have one of the most culturally rich continents on the earth and it is extremely edifying and rewarding for us to experience all of those cultures as best we can.

For those who want to see as much of Europe as possible, then relocating and moving to Switzerland or moving to France will put you in a much better position to fully immerse yourself in our continent’s culture. Moving to Switzerland for instance will put you almost perfectly in the middle of Europe and mean that most countries are quickly and easily accessible by car or train.

Moving to France can offer very similar benefits, depending on which part of the vast country you move to and you can very easily find yourself experiencing and learning so much more about the world around us than you are ever able to with the UK as your base.

For those who love to travel and love to experience the cultures of our continental brethren, a move to Europe will offer you so much more potential to see and experience much more of what the world has to offer.

Moving to Europe

Moving to Europe

They say that the world is your oyster. However, it can sometimes be easy to forget that when you live on an island such as we do in Britain. Travelling places out of our own country involves a full scale mission, be that flying or sailing and it is easy for us to forget that the world is actually surprisingly small.

One of the benefits of heading abroad and moving to France or even moving to Germany is that suddenly the world opens up to you once more, and you realise that travelling or even moving to another country suddenly becomes as easy as hopping in your car and just heading off.

If you are moving to France from Britain, there is a lot of groundwork you need to do and a lot of motions that you need to go through, just the kind of thing that European Removal Experts specialises in. However, you don’t have to decide for sure that moving to Germany, for instance, is the very best idea for you, as once you are over there, moving around suddenly becomes a very simple task.

Having a base in a country on the continent gives you a great way to travel around and see as much of Europe as you can, and if you feel there is a better country out there than the one you have chosen, moving on will not only be easy, but also exciting.

So when you have made up your mind that you want to head overseas, make sure you put thought into the decision, but just remember that it will be extremely easy to move on should you find you wish to.

Removals to Padua- Removals to Italy from UK

Moving to Padua

In northern Italy there is a city and commune in Veneto that is the capital of the province of Padua, and it’s named Padua. The city is the communication and economic hub of the area ad it is sometimes included in the Padua-Treviso-Venice Metropolitan Area, which has a population that reaches 1,600,000 inhabitants.

The city is located west of Venice and southeast of Vincenza and it stands proudly on the Bacchiglione River. In earlier times the Brenta River ran through the city and even today it reaches the northern districts of the city. Padua has an agricultural setting named Pianura Verde or Venetian Plain.

The city is home to the famous University of Padua which is renowned for its 820 years old history and its famous lecturers such as Galileo Galilei.

Padua displays a picturesque landscape with its large communal piazza and the big network of arcaded streets which open into it and the city also has several bridges that are used to cross the branches of Bacchiglione.  This was used once to surround the ancient walls of the city with a purpose very alike a moat.

Many might have heard of the city and recognise it from Shakespeare’s play “The Taming of the Shrew”.

There are many locations that beckon your attention in Padua, one of which is the Scrovegni Chapel, one of its most famous and remarkable chapel. This is where you can see a cycle of frescoes done by Giotto and completed in 1305, which were commissioned by Enrico degli Scrovegni. Enrico was once a wealthy banker who desired to have a private chapel attached to his palazzo, and so he ordered for the Scrovegni Chapel to be built. The location of the chapel is on the site of an arena from Roman times and as a result it is often referred to as the Arena Chapel. The famous fresco cycle tells the tale of the Virgin Mary and her life. It is considered to be one of the most important in the world. It also has the worlds earliest kiss scene representations in the history of art.

Another well-known location in Padua is the Palazzo della Ragione which is well known to have the largest roof in Europe that is not supported by columns. It has a great, nearly rectangular hall on the upper floor and the walls are covered with allegorical frescoes. The upper floor is encircled by an open loggia and the building itself stands on arches.  The structure is dated back in 1172 when it started to be built and it finished in 1219. Originally there were three roofs but later, in 1306, the structure was covered with one roof by an Augustinian friar named Fra Giovanni.  In 1420 there was a fire that greatly damaged the palazzo and when it was being restored, the Venetian architects united the three chambers that were before and formed the great hall known as the Salone. After this the walls were frescoed again all the way from 1425 to 1440 by Nicolo’ Miretto.

Other greatly admired constructions are the Gran Guadia loggia in the Piazza dei Signori, and which was built starting from 1493 to 1526 and near it the Palazzo del Capitaniato can be found which has a grand door, work of Giovanni Maria Falconetto. In the vicinity there is the Cathedral that contains works of Nicolo Semitecolo, Giogio Schiavone and Francesco Bassano.

Another famous location is the Basilica di Sant’Antonio da Padova there the bones of the saint rest in a chapel which is the work of various artist such as Sansovino and Falconetto and which is adorned with carved marble. The building is said to be designed by Nicola Pisano and it is covered with a total of seven cupolas of which two are pyramidal and also has four lovely cloisters that can be visited.

Padua is also the home of the equestrian statue of the general Gattamelata which was done by Donatello and that stands proudly in the piazza, just in front of the Basilica di sant’Antonio da Padova.

Other such wonderful sights to see are just nearby at the St. George Oratory and the Scuola di S. Antonio. Both of which has frescoes by famous artists such as Altichiero and Tiziano.

The Pirato della Valle square is one of the most famous location that is representative of Padua. The square is one of the largest in Europe and in the centre of the square there is a broad garden enclosed by a ditch. Bordering this are 78 statues that depict famous citizens of Padua. The square was created by Andrea Memmo which once resided in the Palazzo Angeli. The palazzo was constructed in the 15th century and now it shelters the Museum of Precinema.

There are also constructions such as the Abbey of Santa Giustina which houses several saints’ tombs which attracts attention to the history of the city, also the Church of the Eremitani is quite well known although it was largely destroyed by the Allies in World War II, and probably the oldest church in Padua is Saint Sofia, apparently built before the 12th century. There is also the church designed by Vincenzo Scamozzi named the Church of San Gaetano which has an unusual octagonal plan and which is home to Madonna and Child that is created in Nanto stone by Andrea Brisco.

In the city you can also find the Padua Synagogue and at the centre of the historical city there are the buildings of Palazzo del Bo.

The City Hall has rather unique wall decorations. The names of the Paduan people which died in various wars across Italy are written on the wall that attaches to the Palazzo della Ragione.

The centre of Padua is enclosed by city walls built in the 16th century, now only several ruins, it still has two gates and the castle Castello with its main tower. The tower was used as an astronomical observatory during the 1967 and 1777 known under the name of Specola.

In the vicinity of Padua, several noble villas can be found, such as Villa Pacchierotii Trieste and Villa Loredan.

There are many other sights to see and to experience and it will take you a long time before you can truly part of these wonders. So don’t hesitate and move to Padua so you can take all the time you’d like to enjoy the city and its history along with its wonderful people. If you’re hesitating because moving is an annoying job, don’t, because we can help you there.

Removals to Verona- Removals to Italy from UK

Moving to Verona

Straddling the Adige River in Veneto is Verona, situated in northern Italy is one of the seven chief-lieus of the region. Verona is the third largest city in northeast Italy and the second largest in the region.
Due to the artistic heritage it owns and annual fairs, operas and shows it is one of the main touristic destination in northern Italy.
Because of the urban structure, architecture and the importance of its many historical buildings, the city was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The city strives to preserve its many Roman monuments since the early Middle Ages and even though many were badly damaged or destroyed by the January 1117 earthquake. After the earthquake, reconstruction began in a Romanesque style. An important description of Verona in the early medieval era represents the Versus de Verona from the Carolingian period.
When you’re in Verona there are many Roman edifices still available to visit, such as the Roman military settlement which is located in the centre of the city now. The structure can still be seen by air and has been carefully preserved to the present day. Mostly hidden from view, the roman city sits virtually intact at about 6 m below the surface.
Near the Roman forum is the Piazza delle Erbe which was rebuilt using materials such as marble statues and blocks from Roman villages and spas, by the lord of Verona Cansignorio della Scala I and Cangrande I.
One famous construction that makes Verona famous is its amphitheatre, the Arena. The Arena is located in the Piazza Bra, the city largest. The construction was completed around the year 30 AD and it measures up to the width of 110m and length of 139m. It is ranked third largest construction in Italy, after the Colosseum and the arena at Capua. Inside this gladiator games and shows took place and when it was in use it attracted people from way beyond the city. Only a part of the outer perimeter wall original size has remained made in white and pink limestone from Valpolicella and the current two-story facade is the internal support for the tiers. The interior however is fairly intact and is still being put to good use for public events, open-air opera and fairs.
There are several other Roman monuments that can be seen in town, for example the Roman theatre of Verona which was built in the 1st century BC and after not being used for some time, it was built upon and used for housing. A wealthy Veronese bought all the houses built over the theatre in the 18th century and demolished them thus saving the theatre. Near this location there is the Roamn landmark Ponte di Pietra which survived through the time to this day
Another significant construction, which was built in 1st century AD, was the Arco dei Gavi. The construction is famous because it has the architects name engraved on which was unusual in those times.  Near the Gavi Arch there is the Porta Borsari, an archway located at the end of Sorso Porta Borsari. It is what’s left of a 3rd century gate that was attached to the original Roman city walls. The inscription gives the name of the city as Colonia Verona Augusta and it is dated back to 245 AD.
Another noted ruin from the 1st century BC is Porta Leoni, which was part of the Roman city gate. It is an open archaeological site the street and from the present street lever you can see the gate contains a small court which was guarded by towers. This is where inspections of the carriages entering or exiting the city were done.
Verona is a city full of the mysterious aura of the history of a great civilisation and it has a certain romantic feel to it. It is amazing to be able to see so many constructions, which just show how fragile and ephemeral life can be and at the same time it show how what we leave behind can be a testimony of our lives. Many visit Verona and fall in love with the wonderful atmosphere and decide to move there. If you are one of those you can just relax and leave it all to us. We can and will help you to make your transit a stress-free one.

The cultural centre of northern Italy and the second major business centre after Milan is called Turin. Turin is the capital of the Piedmont region and it is situated on the left bank of the Po River, surrounded by the western Alpine arch. Turing is well-known for its numerous art galleries, restaurants, opera houses, theatres and other venues as it is a city which has a rich history and culture. The town houses various constructions that have a variety of architectural styles such as neo-classical, baroque, Art Nouveau and rococo. Many of the public squares, gardens, castles and elegant palazzo that can be found in the city, were built between the 16th century and 18th century. That was the time when, due to urban expansion, the capital of Duchy of Savoy was moved from Chambery to Turin. The city has been the home of many important politicians and contributors to the Risorgimento and has received the nickname of “cradle of Italian liberty”. In Turin you will find some of the best universities in Italy, also many collages, lyceums and gymnasiums as well as academies which have quite a prestige not only in Italy but even internationally. Examples of such are the Turin Polytechnic and University of Turin. Turin is also the home of various prestigious museums, for example the Museo Egizio and The Mole Antonelliana which can also be found inside the city and it is a major landmark for Turin. Overall Turin has several significant sights and monuments which attract tourists, making it the tenth most visited city in Italy and ranking in the world’s top 250 tourist destinations. Back in 1861 Turin was Italy’s first capital city and a major political centre in Europe. It was also home to Italy’s royal family, the House of Savoy. By the World War II Turin has lost most of its political power and importance; however it soon became a major crossroad for industry, trade and commerce in Europe. Even today it retains its influence and it is considered Italy’s main industrial centre, which along with Milan and Genoa forms the “industrial triangle”. It is ranked third in Italy regarding its economic strength right after Milan and Rome. Turin also possesses a lot of influence as the home of most of the automotive industry in Italy. Turin is the home of the well-known Shroud of Turin, which is a famous piece of linen cloth dating back to the medieval period that is said to have the image of a man which suffered physical trauma alike a crucifixion. The city is also the home to two major football teams, Juventus F.C. and Torino F.C. It also contains the headquarters of various famous automobile manufacturers such as Alfa Romeo and FIAT, also Lancia. Turin hosted back in 2006 the Winter Olympics and several modules appertaining to the International Space Station were manufactured in the same town, such as Columbus and Harmony. Turin is also known as “the Capital of the Alps” because of where it’s situated and also as “the Automobile Capital of Italy” or “Detroit of Italy” because it is the home of FIAT. There are several important locations one must visit while in Turin, such as the Downtown or Centro, where you can find that baroque architecture predominates and where you can find various significant buildings. For example, here you can find the Palazzo Regale and Palazzo Madama located at the Piazza Castello, and also buildings such as Teatro Regio and the Biblioteca Reale which houses a Leonardo da Vinci self portrait, and many other worthwhile places and buildings to visit. Another famous and beautiful location that you should visit is the San Salvario district which is located south-east of the Centro. This is where you can find various pubs and restaurants and quite a few nightclubs. In the centre of the district is the Piazza Madama Thomas Franklintina, where a big open market is hosted which has around it several commercial activities. In this location you can also find the Parco del Valentino which is a popular gathering place for the local people. In the centre of the park the Castello del Valentino is situated, which was built in the 17th century, and also the medieval village is located there, named Borgo Medioevale, that was built for the international Exhibition of 1884. Other such famous locations are the Crocetta district, which is one of the most exclusive districts in Turin, the small district named Cenisia which hosts the recent expansion of Turinese Institute of Technology Politecnico, and Cit Turin which houses several high-rated residential buildings, being considered a prestigious residential neighbourhood. There are many districts which offer a lot to their dwellers so no matter what you can surely find one that suits you every need. When you do, moving there will be a breeze with our help.

Removals to Brescia- Removals to Italy from UK

Moving to Brescia

In northern Italy there is the Lombarty region, and there is where Brescia is located.  The town is situated at the foot of the Alps and it ranks as second largest city in Lombardy after its capital, Milan.
Brescia is the administrative capital of one of the largest provinces in Italy, namely the Province f Brescia and has been a significant regional centre for a long time now. Brescia has kept rather well preserved several medieval and Roman monuments and even an outstanding castle.
Brescia has a large industrial area, actually ranked as third-largest in Italy that focuses on automotive and mechanical engineering and machine tools. The city is well known for its firearm manufacturers namely Fabarm and Beretta. The companies that you find in this town are mostly small ones with family management and some mediums sized ones. The town does have a major employer in the financial sector and it is a rather famous tourist location thanks to the closeness of the Alps and two beautiful lakes, Lake Garda and Lake Iseo.
Brescia has a characteristic that was passed down from Roman times and which is the way how the old town is rectangular and how the streets intersect at 90 degrees angles. The portion that is surrounded on all sides by the medieval walls is bigger than the space occupied by the Roman town.  Only the northeaster quarter of the old town was occupied by the Roman town.
One of the places that need to be visit is the Plazza del Foro as that is the place of the Roman-time forum. There is a temple complex that was discovered in 1823 as it was built on top another temple of a smaller size is supposed to be the Capitolium of Brescia. When unearthing the temple a winged Victory statue made out of bronze was found hidden away for the sole purpose of protecting it from the plundering that often took place in those times.
Some time ago, the Brescia Roman museum was housed by the Capitolium, but later it was moved to Santa Giulia complex, which was a former nunnery.  The convent was run by the daughter of King Desiderius during the Lombard domination, namely the Princess Anselperga and it was quite powerful in those times.
There are many other Roman vestiges still visible but not all are open to visitors. For example there are barely sufficient remnants of the curia, which is a building supposed to have been a basilica, just on the north side of the Forum Square.
The Roman theatre can be found at the eastern side of the Capitolium. In ancient times, the theatre was attached to the Capitolium. On the slopes of Cidneo Hill a palace was built in the Renaissance time but over time the building slid and eventually covered the Cepitolium-theatre area in totality. As a result to that, only part of the theatre can be seen.
The monastery complex of san Salvatore – Santa Giulia and the archaeological area of the Roman Forum are officially a UNESCO World Heritage Site and they appertain to a group named the Longobards in Italy. Places of the power (568-774 A.D.) which is comprised of 7 such locations.
When staying in Brescia, there are some major location you should visit for a better understanding of the city’s history and charm.  One such location is the Piazza della Loggia that evokes a Renaissance style, together with the related loggia, which is the current town hall.  Then there is the Doumo Vecchio meaning old cathedral and which you might have heard of it under the name of La Rotonda. This cathedral lures people with a Romanesque church that has a circular shape and near the entrance there is a sarcophagus of Berardo Maggi made of pink Veronese marble.  Various famous paintings can be found in the structure, such as the “Feast of the Paschal Lamb” and “Eli and the Angel”; paintings by Alessandro Bonvicino, Girolamo Romanino, Francesco Maffei and others.
You can also visit the Duomo Nouvo and the Broletto which is the medieval Town Hall, the Renaissance style church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli and Sr. Francis of Assisi which adopt a Romanesque-Gothic style and many other breathtaking and amazing locations. People who visit there remain forever captivated by the atmosphere and the beautiful views and many decide to move to Brescia. If you’re one who want to do it too, we can help you.

Removals to Milan- Removals to Italy from UK

Moving to Milan

The second largest city in Italy is Milan, which is the capital of Lombardy.  Its urban area is the largest in Italy and ranked fifth in Europe. Milan founders were the Insubres which were Celtic people, later on the city became the capital of the Western Europe Empire when it was conquered by the Romans.
These last few decades the number of international immigrants in Milan grew which led to a great increase of foreign born inhabitants. Milan is considered a leading global city and in Italy it is the main financial, commercial and even industrial centre. The business district in Milan the Italian Stock Exchange is hosted and the city is known to be the base of the largest companies and national banks. The city is also said to be the capital of fashion and design.
Milan is home to some important landmarks, theatres and museums, that which attracts a lot of tourists all year long. One important and hard to miss landmark is the Milan Cathedral. The cathedral is the fourth largest in the world. There is also the Santa Maria della Grazie which is a church and Dominican convent is adorned with paintings of Leonardo da Vinci and which is officially recognized as an UNESCO World Heritage Site. The church contains the mural of Leonardo da Vinci called The Last Supper.
Milan hosts several events and fairs at an international level such as the Milan Furniture Fair and the Milan Fashion Week.  The town is also home to two major football teams namely F.C. Internazionale Milano and A. C. Milan.
From the ancient Roman colony there are a few vestiges still left such as the Colonne di San Lorenzo.  There are also the great basilicas at the city gates, which are Sant’ Eustorgio, San Simpliciano, Sant’ Nazaro in Brolo and Sant’ Ambrogio. These still stand tall and are regarded as some of the finest and significant churches in the city.
The famous Milan’s Cathedral is the best and most important example of Gothic style architecture and it was built in the years 1386 to 1577. The statue of the Virgin Mary which is gilded with bronze was placed, back in 1774, on the pinnacle at the highest point of the Duomo. Even today the statue is one of the most lasting symbols of the city.
In Milan you will also be able to see the Castello Sforzesco, transformed in the 15th century from an old Viscontean fortress with the purpose of becoming the seat of a Renaissance court. Many well-known architects were commissioned to participate in this projects, including Florentine Filarette who buit the high central tower and Bartolomeo Gadio who was a military specialist.
Influenced by the alliance that formed between Florence’s Cosmino de’ Medici and Francesco Sforza, Tuscan models of Renaissance architecture made their presence known. That can be clearly seen in buildings such as the Ospedale Maggiore, Santa Maria della Grazzie tribune, the three cloisters for Sant’ Ambrogio and Santa Maria presso San Satiro.
Saint Charles Borromeo and Cardinal Federico Borromeo were cousins and an important part of the Counter-Reformation in the 16th century and which lasted until the 17th century. These too had a great influence to the people and to the culture alike, leading to creations such as the Biblioteca Ambrosiana and the Pinoteca Ambrosiana that was just nearby. During this same period, architects such as Francesco Maria Richinno, Pellegrino Tibaldi and Galeazzo Alessi, built many important Baroque mansions and churches.
Later on, during the 18th century, extensive renovations took place in Milan by the request of Empress Maria Theresa of Austria. These renovations included the Royal Palace and the Teatro alla Scala which today is the most famous opera house in the world.
Regarded as the best examples of neoclassical architecture in Lombardy, there are the Royal Villa of Milan and the Palazzo Belgioioso. The Royal Villa of Milan was later on the official residence of Austria vice-roys.
While under Napoleon, Milan was named the capital of a satellite Kingdom of Italy and started to be reshaped and new squares and larger boulevards were constructed, as well as cultural institutions, such as the Art Galery and the Academy of Fine arts and the squares named Porta Ticinese and Foro Bonaparte.
Another breathtaking and massive construction that took place was the Arch of Peace which was located at the bottom of Corso Sempione. There is also the Galleria Vitorrio Emanuele II that was designed by Giuseppe Mengoni and that was built as a celebration to Vittorio Emanuele II. The building was inspired by the Bulnighton Arcade in London and has a cast iron roof adorned with glass.
In these last few years, Milan has had an urban decay and renewal of former industrial areas which are now modern residential and financial districs such as Fiera Milano and Porta Nova. According to some, the old exhibition area is to be reshaped to feature residential areas, skyscrapers, museums, and an urban park.
The largest park in the centre of Milan is the Sempiore Park in the northwest and Montanelli Garden in the northeast. The Sempiore Park adopted the English style and has in its premises the Milan City Aquarium and the Napoleonic Arena, as well as a Japanese garden and a public library. There is also a steel lattice panoramic tower and an exhibition centre for those who are interested.
There are various places to visit when in Milan, lots of places to shop and party and it is a city that can offer anything you would ever want or need. It is one of the most recommended places you can move to for a better and more exciting life. Don’t be afraid to live your life, we can help!
