Moving to Mannheim

Mannheim is a German city located in southwestern Germany. Its 315,000 inhabitants make Mannheim the third-largest city in Baden-Württemberg, after Stuttgart and Karlsruhe. It is situated at the confluence of the Rhine and the Neckar, in the northwestern corner of Baden-Württemberg, being separated by Rhine from the city of Ludwigshafen, just to the west of it in Rhineland-Palatinate, and the border of Baden-Württemberg with Hesse is just to the north.
Mannheim got the nick-name of “city of the squares” (“die Quadratestadt”) because of its streets and avenues laid out in a grid pattern .
The Mannheim Palace is a large Baroque palace from eighteenth century holding now the University of Mannheim, in the past home of the Prince-elector of the Palatinate.
Mannheim’s civic symbol is der Wasserturm, a water tower, just east of the city centre.
The Bertha Benz Memorial Route starts and finishes in Mannheim.
Mannheim is proud of some important inventions.
The first two-wheeled draisine was built by Karl Drais in 1817.
Karl Benz drove the first automobile on the streets of Mannheim in 1886. He produced at his workshop in Mannheim a lightweight three-wheeled vehicle powered by a single cylinder petrol/gasoline-fueled engine, considered to be the first automobile/motor car powered by an internal-combustion engine. In August 1888, Karl’s wife Bertha Benz undertook the world’s first road trip by automobile from Mannheim to Pforzheim.
A popular tractor with a rugged, simple Diesel engine, the Lanz Bulldog, was introduced in 1921.
During 1923 was developed by Karl Benz the world’s first compact diesel-powered car at the Benz & Cie. motor works
Julius Hatry built in 1929 the world’s first rocket plane.

Moving to Aachen

Located in the western part of Germany, in North-Rhine Westphalia, the city of Aachen flourished economically over the years, thanks to its location in a coal-mining area.
The former capital of the Charlemagne’s Frankish empire is also known as ‘Bad Aachen’, with thousands of people enjoying the benefits of the local mineral waters every year.
Aachen’s economy is based on science, engineering and innovation. In 2009, the city was rated 8th among cities in Germany in this area. The RWTH Aachen University, one of the country’s top universities, is located in the city.
In 1372, the city of Aachen became the first coin-minting city in the world that used an Anno Domini date on a coin.
Opened in 1959, the Scotch Club was the first discotheque in Aachen, with Klaus Quirini as the first DJ.
The ‘Printen’ is a local specialty of sweet bread, which, unlike gingerbread, is sweeten with sugar. However, the original recipe is no longer used, that’s why the new ‘Printen’ has another taste.
The main attraction of the city is the Aachen Cathedral. Erected in 796 AD on Charlemagne’s orders, was the largest cathedral in northern Europe. 30 German kings and 12 queens were crowned in this cathedral between 936 until 1531. The remains of Charlemagne can be seen inside the church’s walls. Its original form is lost in the mists of history, due to several extensions and renovations, which gave the Cathedral an eclectic, rather interesting style.
Dating from 1330, the city hall is an imposing building located nearby the market and the cathedral. The city hall’s attractions are the coronation hall and the emperors’ hall, beautifully decorated with scenes from the life of Charlemagne (also known as Charles the Great) as well as the legendary king’s signature.

Removals to DUISBURG- Removals to Germany from UK

Moving to Duisburg

Located in the western part of the German state of North Rihne-Westphalia, Duisburg is part of the Regierungsbezirk Düsseldorf metropolitan area, along with the larger city of Düsseldorf. Thanks to its excellent positioning, access to the world’s largest in-land harbor, and proximity to a major international airport, the city is a commercial and industrial hub known primarily for its steelworks.
Duisburg has a population of close to 490,000 inhabitants, and ranks as the fifteenth most populous city in the country. Over time, the settlement absorbed numerous smaller towns in the surrounding area, resulting in today’s sprawling urban development.
As a major center of the Ruhr coal mining and steelmaking area, Duisburg’s development has been closely related to heavy industry. While in the recent decades, the contribution of mining and steelmaking to the local economy has decreased, the city is still home to the last remaining blast furnaces in the Ruhr region. According to the most recent statistics, almost half of all hot metal in Germany and one third of all pig-iron is processed in Duisburg.
But Duisburg is known for more than just heavy industry. The renowned Konig Pilsener beer is produced at a large brewery outside of Duisburg, and the town is also home to a university that enrolls close to 40,000 students, ranking in the top ten universities in the country.
The city’s cultural life centers around the Deutsche Oper am Rhein, one of the most prominent German institutions of its kind, and the philharmonic orchestra that regularly tours Europe.
Duisburg’s architectural patrimony includes various landmarks, from the Inland Waterways Museum, to the 1,100-year old St Johann the Baptist church, and the modernist Micro-Electronic-Centrum. Urban explorers should be happy to learn about the Landschaftspark, a former industrial complex that is now open for visiting. For shopping and promenade, Duisburg’s residents prefer the city center and its main commercial street, the so-called “fountain mile”, as well as the city’s parks and botanical garden.

Situated at the heart of the Rhine-Ruhr metropolitan area, home to more than 11 million people, Düsseldorf is the capital of North Rhine-Westphalia,
The city is an important industrial and commercial center and is known internationally for the numerous trade fairs organized there. Several international corporations and large German companies have their headquarters in the so-called Blue Banana district of the city. Over the years, major cultural figures like composers Felix Mendelssohn and Robert Schuman or poet Heinrich Heine have tied their name to the city of Dusseldorf. To this day, the town is known for its thriving culture, spurred by institutions such as the Kunstakademie, a fine arts academy where many prominent German visual artists have worked and studied. Other major cultural venues are the North Rhine-Westphalia state art collection, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein opera, and the Düsseldorfer theater. The city is also home to a vibrant musical scene, with the electronic genre being represented by artists like Kraftwerk.
Every year, close to five million people visit Düsseldorf to attend the July funfair, the largest and most attractive of the traditional Rhenish Carnival celebrations. Removals to Essen- Removals to Germany from UK

Moving to Essen

Located in the heart of the coal and steelmaking area of Ruhr, part of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, Essen is Germany’s ninth most populous city, at 570,000 inhabitants.
Historians believe Essen was founded around the year 845, but the city began to develop tremendously at the onset of the Industrial Revolution, when many coal mines and steel works opened in the Ruhr region. Essen’s name is tied to that of the Krupp family, owners of the steelworks of the same name. Since the seventies, the coal and steel industry has been declining, taking its toll on the city’s population, which dropped from 730,000 inhabitants in the early sixties.
Essen is also a center of culture, and, as a recognition of its role, it was designated the European Capital of Culture along with the other regions of the Ruhr urban area. Since 1958, the Catholic diocese of Ruhr is located in the city and the merged university of Duisburg-Essen has a campus and a university hospital here.
A testimony to the city’s coal mining legacy, Essen’s foremost landmark is the Zollverein Industrial Complex, a former coal mine and coke complex that closed down in the nineties. The winding tower siting at the top of the coal mine’s main shaft, built in the distinctive Bauhaus style, is considered the city’s symbol, a masterpiece that was inducted in the UNESCO World Heritage Site patrimony.
The complex was long neglected, but in recent years, the local authorities have acted to preserve and redevelop the area. Currently, several art and design studios work within the old industrial complex, and there’s hope that more will follow in the future. The complex is freely accessible and paid tours are frequently organized. The highlights of the tours are the Red Dot Design Museum and the Ruhrmuseum, dedicated to the history of the region, which functions since 2010 in a former coal-washing factory.

From concerts to opera and musicals, from ballets to modern dance, from plays to artistic circus acts, the festival showcases all kinds of performances.

From the end of November to December 23, the Schlossplatz Square dresses up for Holiday. Removals to STUTTGART- Removals to Germany from UK

Moving to Stuttgart

The capital of the Baden-Württemberg state is Stuttgart, and it is located in southern Germany. Stuttgart is ranked sixth as size in Germany and the Stuttgart Metropolitan Region is ranked fourth as size after the Rhine-Ruhr area, Berlin/Brandenburg and Frankfurt/Rhine-Main regions.

The city is at the centre of a highly dense populated area and it is encircled by smaller towns. The area is called Stuttgart Region and it reaches to a population of 2.7 million inhabitants. The urban area of Stuttgart can reach a 1.8 million of inhabitants there classifying as the seventh largest in Germany.

It is unusual for a German city to be like Stuttgart, which is spread across several hills, vineyard, parks and valleys. This always surprises visitors as Stuttgart is known as the “cradle of automobile” and its industrial reputation. Stuttgart is also a centre of authority in regards with the state legislature, the local council and the regional parliament.  Stuttgart is also the home of the Protestant State Church in Württemberg and in addition it is one of the two co-seats of the bishop of the Roman-Catholic Diocese of Rottenburg – Stuttgart.

The city has ranked thirtieth in 2010 in liveability rankings in the world and seventh in Germany. Stuttgart is well known for its economic and social innovations and was ranked 11th globally because of that and second in Germany, after Hamburg. In Europe the ranked is at seven in 2009 from a number of 256 cities in total.

Stuttgart is a highly sought after tourist attraction and its slogan is “Stuttgart offers more”. In 2008 Stuttgart revealed a new slogan based on the plan to improve transport links to the international infrastructure where it describes itself as the new heart of Europe. Regarding business ventures, Stuttgart best description offered was “Where business meets the future” and it is now targeted at foreign investors as “The creative power of Germany”.

By being nicknamed the Schwabenmetropole, Stuttgart makes a reference to the Swabian dialect spoken by native dwellers in the centre of Swabia where the city is now located. Because of heavy emigration due to economic reasons, a lot of newly born residents are of immigrant background.

When in Stuttgart, beside the economic and industrial facade it exposes, there is also the cultural side of the city.

The crossover point between the Shopping area of the city, Stuttgart two central castles, the Schlossgarten Park and residential areas and major museums in the south-west is the largest square in Stuttgart named Schlossplatz.  The shopping street named Königstraße is considered to be the longest pedestrianized street in Germany.

After the World War II, the damage that occurred on Stuttgart has been repaired and many historic buildings were reconstructed. Stuttgart has some amazing pieces of modern post-war architecture such as the Collegiate Church named Stiftskirche which has a Late Gothic Style on the exterior  mixed with a bit of Romanesque style and on the interior it has a combination of various styles including the Romanesque, Gothic and Modern styles. After the war it was reconstructed with a simplified interior.

There is also the Old Castle named Altes Schloss with parts that date back to 1320 and which adopts a Renaissance style; and the New Castle named Neues Schloss which was a mixture of Baroque/Classicism style and that was later reconstructed with modern interior.

In Stuttgart’s suburbs and beyond there are various castles that have significant importance, which are reminders of the city’s loyal past. Some of these are the Ludwigsburg Palace, the Castle Solitude, Castle Rosenstein and the Castle Hohenheim. If you have time on your hands it well worth in visiting these since they embrace different styles such as mixtures of Baroque with Rococo (Ludwigsburg Palace) or simply just Classical or Baroque Styles.

Other important building or institution you may find there are the Württemberg Mausoleum which shelters the remains of King William I of Württemberg and Catherine Pavlovna of Russia. Also pass by the Wilhelma zoo and Botanical Gardens.  The International style displayed by the Weissenhof Estate is worthy of a drive till there as it provides a sight to remember.

Stuttgart is also quite renowned for its vast cultural heritage such as its State Gallery and State Theatre and the city is even home to one of Germany’s most famous symphony orchestras named Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra mainly performs in the Liederhalle concert hall and has developed a distinctive sound known as the Stuttgart Sound.

The city also has not one, but two musical theatres in broadway-style, namely the Palladium and Apollo Theatre.

Stuttgart has a sport arena as well named Schleyerhalle which is regularly used to stage music concerts with major international stars.

There are several regular events that take place in Stuttgart and one of the most well-known one is the annual Volkfest and the Spring Festival. There is also the Spring Festival, The Lantern Festival and the Wine Village. These are just a few of the regular festivities held in Stuttgart.

Whether you want to admire the wonderful architecture, the green scenery everyday, play and have fun during festivals or you’re one of the hundreds of business associates that want to start a new life in Stuttgart, moving to Stuttgart is the best you can do for yourself and your family.

Removals to MUNSTER- Removals to Germany from UK

Moving to Münster

Moving to Münster has never been easier!

In the North Rhine-Westphalia, in Germany, there is an independent city called Münster. The name Münster is derived from the Greek word meaning monastery. The city is said to be the cultural centre of Westphalia and is located in the northern part of the state. Münster is also the capital of Münsterland governmental region.  In this city took place the Anabaptist rebellion which was during the Protestant Reformation and also it is where the Treaty of Westphalia was signed in 1648, ending the Thirty Years’ War. In modern times, Münster is well-known as the bicycle capital of Germany.

Münster is considered a major city since 1915 because of the high number of people living in it. Now-a-days the number of people staying in Münster are around 270, 000 of which a lot are students.

When visiting Münster there are several well-known locations you must go to. One such location is St. Paul’s Cathedral which is built in mixture of late Romanesque and early Gothic styles and that was constructed in the early 13th century.  During World War II, the building was heavily damaged but was later fully restored. The building has an astronomical clock decorated with zodiac signs painted by hand and that reproduces the movements of the planet. The clock also plays a Glockenspiel tune every day at noon.

The main shopping street in the town’s centre, the Prinzipalmarkt is adorned with a Gothic style Town Hall built in the 14th century. This is where the Peace of Westphalia treaty was signed.

A more morbid history has the St. Lambert’s Church, built in 1375 and that has three cages suspended from its tower where corpses of Jan van Leiden and other leaders of the Münster Rebellion were displayed. These people used to promote polygamy and renunciation of all properties and were prosecuted for that.

Münster has a palace named the Schloss which as build in 1767 and was finished in 1787 and which used to be the occupied by the prince – bishops and that was designed by the Baroque architect Wilhelm Ferdinand Lipper and Johann Conrad Schlaun. The palace is now the administrative centre for the university.

When you have time you can also visit the Botanicher Garten Münster which was founded in 1803.

Used from the 18th century until the 20th as a prison, the fortress “Zwinger” was built in 1526. The fortress was also used by the Gestapo during the World War II as an execution ground.

During the signing of the Peace of Westphalia treaty, the old guild house named Krameramtshaus  which was built in 1589, housed the delegation that came from the Netherlands.

Strarting from 1743 and until 1749 Johann Conrad Schlaun built a country estate situated in Nienberge that should be visited by everyone.  He also built Erbdrostenhof in 1749 and it took until 1753 to finish the residence of Droste zu Vischering noble family. The Baroque palace was the birthplace of Blessed Mary of the Divine Heart.

There are many other places to visit and things to see that leave a deep impression on anyone willing to stop and contemplate them. From modern building and high-rise building to old churches constructed in the Baroque style, there is something for everyone. Even the Westphalia State Museum  of Art and Cultural History is rather well known for its vast and valuable collections   along with other such institutions, for example Westphalia Horse Museum or the Mühlenhof open-air museum and even Pablo Picasso Museum of Graphic Art which is the only museum that’s devoted entirely to the graphic works of Pablo Picasso.

Whether you’re in Münster to study, or just visiting or you plainly like all the history the city exudes if you fall in love with the town you might as well just move to Münster. But don’t worry about the whole hassle of moving, because we are here to help.
