As time went by, Lower Burgundy and Upper Burgundy were reunified in 937 and attached to the Holy Roman Empire under the name Kingdom of Arles, in 1032. The incorporation of the Duchy of Burgundy was done with the Treaties of Nijmegen.

Located in the northeast of the country is another one of the 27 regions of France named Champagne-Ardenne.
